Hillside
Hillside Trust of Cincinnati
1985
37”x 18.5”

Mike Zender and Joe Bottoni collaborated on this announcement for a national design competition open to architects and landscape architects. The goal of the competition was to find innovative and less intrusive solutions for hillside development all through the Cincinnati region.

The imagery is based on the architectural window treatments of houses widely found throughout Mount Adams, a densely populated Cincinnati neighborhood, and a primary area for ongoing hillside building and apprehension.

To give the poster and accompanying pieces a distinctive appearance and tactile awareness it was printed on a gray uncoated text paper in lieu of a standard white coated sheet.

Designed as a multi-purpose piece, some posters were trimmed, scored and folded for mailing and additional functions. A 9.25" x 9.25” pamphlet cover was fashioned by cutting the poster horizontally in half, vertically scoring and folding the top half into fourths and folding both end panels inward producing a double weight front and back cover. A 37” x 9.25” cost-cutting mailer was produced by using the remaining bottom half of the poster, vertically scoring and folding it into fourths.
