As You Like It | The Blacks
Cincinnati Play House in the Park
1970
14.75” x 20”
Two very different theatrical plays, metaphorically, posing the identical age-old question: How do people cope with the madness around them?
The Blacks, at the time a relatively unknown play by Genet, needed to be showcased, whereas, Shakespeare’s As You Like It really didn’t need much fanfare. The imagery of warring black and white ants, of course, is a nod to The Blacks and the cheshire smile is a nod to As You Like It. The overall image is a play on uproarious madness.
Designed as a multi-purpose piece, some posters were scored and folded for mailing. A 14.75” x 5” mailer was fashioned by horizontally scoring the poster and folding it into fourths.
