Selma Burke
National Sculpture Conference: Works by Women

23" x 35”
A commemorative poster dedicated to sculptor Selma Burke, recognizing her as the artist who created the bronze plaque bearing the likeness of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, which became the basis for his portrait on the dime struck by the United States Mint continuously since 1946. She never received proper credit for this portrait because the initials on the coin are those of the engraver John Sinnok. This poster tells her belated story, recognizes her achievement and sets the record straight.
Silver metallic ink and a concentric circles halftone, in lieu of a traditional halftone, were used to exploit the color and shape of the dime.
