FOCUS is an in-house affirmative action program to identify, develop and accelerate women and minorities who have growth potential. Basically, a how-to manual describing how candidates remain in their current position, are promoted or demoted. The typographical solutions, based on manipulating the word “FOCUS,” are visualizations of how various actions by the candidate either help or deter job advancement within IBM.
To “stay within budget” photography was not used, and the printing was limited to two colors on two different papers, a white stock for the cover and a light tan paper for the text..Switching the papers economically produced a visual and tactile difference, and facilitated the photocopying of the “submission form” on the inside back cover.
